Glutathione

What is it:

Glutathione is a substance that is naturally present in your cells. It is made of three amino acids, cysteine, glutamate and glycine, is a powerful antioxidant effect & possibly has an anti-melanogenic skin lightening effect in the body.

What it does:

I like this active ingredient for its powerful antioxidant action. Glutathione minimizes free radical damage within the body thus benefiting not only the skin, but multiple organ systems. Patients with chronic inflammatory conditions like acne too have shown improvement while on Glutathione.

Why Take Supplements:

With age and disease, the amount of glutathione in your cells and their ability to make new stores reduces. It cannot be easily absorbed through diet thus supplementation is popular. The method of supplementation is still being improved upon. Some doctors believe in the intravenous route, others in an oral route. It is believed that sulfur rich amino acids in certain foods help in the absorption of glutathione: broccoli, garlic, asparagus are among them.

Commonly bandied about as a skin lightening agent injections and drips with glutathione have been in vogue for the last few years. This method is fraught with serious risks of organ damage and full blown allergic reactions and has been banned in a few nations. Results with oral and topical formulae have been positive, on the other hand. At JUVERNE we only offer safe treatments.

Also, we believe in clear glowing healthy skin (the pursuit of fairness is something I do not endorse), Thus we advocate the use of glutathione as an antioxidant anti aging substance. Glutathione is useful for this objective, and can be safely taken orally (after consultation with a doctor and Medical screening for underlying issues). It is also available in a topical formula at JUVERNE.

Combination Supplementation:

Glutathione is usually administered along with oral vitamin C to have a synergistic impact. The role of vitamin C as an antioxidant is well known as well. Collagen drinks are hugely popular among my patients and they usually get their stock while traveling abroad. We've now brought in a world class product for such patients conveniently available at Juverne. It contains many other potent ingredients such as mushroom extracts in a convenient low calorie vegan daily drinkable formula. I have previously been skeptical about the benefit of collagen drinks and bone broth etc. - however, new evidence and proposed mechanisms look promising enough to warrant they be further delved into.

While I'm still evaluating the benefit of oral collagen supplementation, I do believe that my patients benefit from oral glutathione and vitamin C supplements. The market is flooded with brands offering these ingredients but my selection is based on bio availability, stability and visible clinical impact of a product.  We have thus made our favorite brands available at Juverne.
